FLORA AND FAUNA OF THE ŠKOCJANSKI ZATOK

We will take a walk along the edge of a freshwater swamp caught in the midst of an urban area and learn how nature and man can cohabit in harmony.

We will start with a biking tour which will lead us to  the Škocjan Inlet  Nature Reserve and continue with a 2,2 km long walking tour followed by degustation and animation. Afterwards we will bike back to Koper taking another way. Our visit to the Slovenian largest brackish wetland will teach us the immense ecological, botanical and zoological value the Nature Reserve holds.

The Škocjan Inlet offers brackish and freshwater habitats as well as bird habitats, which nest during winter and stop during migration in this inlet in large numbers. You will learn that Škocjan Inlet is one of the most important nesting places for herons, water rails, great reed warblers, Eurasian reed warblers, common terns and black-winged stilts. You will be free to observe them on our walking path. In the wet meadows, the vegetation is balanced by Podolian cattle and Camargue horses grazing. The special infrastructure for the observation will allow us to admire the green heart of Koper, the fauna and flora of the inlet up close. We will take some time to observe and photograph different birds and to regenerate your body and spirit in this natural environment. There, it is also possible to observe the underwater world. You will be invited for a degustation of local dishes and to partake in an entertaining quiz about the Inlet to repeat the knowledge we gained on the trip.  The whole experience (guided tour, animation and degustation) will last approximately 90 – 120 minutes.

INTERPRETATION OF KOPER HIGHLIGHTS

With our innate gifts for acting we will revive for you the most interesting legends and past traditions of Koper just for you. We will be glad to take you on an interpretive tour throughout Koper. We will meet at the Koper Tourist information centre and from there on explore all the main streets and squares of the city with all the main attractions from the Venetian time.

STORIES OF IZOLANA, REX AND PARENZANA

This biking tour will take us along the trail of the former railway. Our meeting point will be at the Tourist Information Centre of Koper. From there we will bike along the former railway and have our first stop ‘’at Rex’’, where we will relive some nostalgic memories of this mighty Italian Liner that sank here. Our path will lead us till the tunnel Šalet which offers us a beautiful view of medieval Piran. On our way back from the tunnel, we will relive some of the main stories and tales of Izola and its fishing tradition. We will make a nice break in a special place, a bar ‘’Pod Belvederjem’’, surrounded by trees. A degustation and a fun quiz will follow where you will be asked to partake and test your knowledge about Izola, Rex and Parenzana. After the break we will reach an archaeological site in San Simon where lay the remains of an old Roman villa. Biking further along the path, we will encounter Izolana – a house of the sea, followed by a guided tour of the didactic museum.
